Iron Warrior HQ's

Hello guys,

So during the post 6k blues I went about trying to make loads of different Centurions and Consuls.

So the top dude is my champion. Very pleased with him, and he usually lives with the command squad, especially given they're meant to look similar. His sword and shield are both from shapeways, I really wanted his sword to look Greek or ancient world, just another thing to make him stand out.

The second is a Vigilator. I random choice but I had lots of bits and I liked the idea of an artillery spotter for my IW. I've used him a couple times and he's done meh. Rule wise he's cool but isn't going to change the course of the Heresy. However I love the model and the logic behind him so he gets used!

What about you guys? What is your favourite Consul?

Iron Warriors Command Squad

Hello folks,

So once you hit about 6K in a Heresy army you usually do two things.

1) Plan another army with which to feed your addiction.
2) Buy and make more mad stuff you never planned on having.

My Iron Warriors are testimony to both, as the Blood angels and World Eaters kicked off around then, and I also started converting and making models that I never planned.

So I made these guys...

I'm really happy with these chaps, they were just a challenge to make something cool and I'm happy so mission accomplished. Happy with the poses and how they look, another favourite of mine.

The weapons and shields are from Shapeways- POP Goes the Monkey. The selection is excellent and new stuff goes up very regularly, lots of Legion and 40k stuff. They also have a huge selection of shoulder pads for lesser known legions 2nd founding onward. Who knows I might finally get to do a Blood Raven army.

The reason behind the spears was that my IW are themed as Greeks (yes the shields are Roman, sue me) as the IW are from the planet "OLYMPIA". It doesn't get more Greek than that. 

Rule wise, they do okay. The banner is excellent for the fearless bubble in melee, and the bonus wound is more useful than you'd think. The only negative is that the squad cant buy boarding shields, only combat. It's fine really, I just have to be super hot on my rules as to not disadvantage my opponent with the defensive grenade rules.

World Eater Praetor/Champion

Hello again,

So Kharn was always going to lead my World Eaters from the offset. However using a special character every game isn't exactly fair or sportsman like, so I made a Praetor who could also act as a Centurion or Champion.

Happy with the model and paint job, he definitely does the job in my opinion.

Next for WE will be the drop pods. My list currently has 5 normal, 3 deathstorm and 2 Dreadclaws backed up with a Dreadnought drop pod for the Siege Dreadnought so I really need to get a move on with them.

Horus Heresy Weekender Day Two- New Releases

We attended a fair few seminars today, mainly the new releases for necromunda and Horus Heresy. So here’s few pics from those. 

Heresy wise, aside form the actually releases of Dorn and co. I suppose the big news is the upcoming release of Alpharius and also the long awaited Lernean Terminators for the Alpha Legion. We have a member who should be posting some Alpha Legion soon, no doubt he’ll be keen to add these to his army.

Next up there was a lot of necromunda stuff. This game is shaping up to be a great continuity game, lots of background, an evolving ruleset and extra stuff for each gang (like pets for your leaders, bounty hunters and new settings). After today I am far more excited about Necromunda and really glad I painted my Delaques!

Those new Escher weapons packs look great, I’m waiting until they come out to build my gang!

Lastly, some of the other stuff coming out this year for HH was far more esoteric and exciting with the return of a few old favourites.

I love the Termite, what a fun model this looks!

Horus Heresy Weekender 1- an unexpected journey, the lament of Abe and Stonedrose

Well, today was day one of our road trip to Nottingham for the Horus Heresy weekender and an auspicious day it was.....

So the Weekender nearly ended early for us, let me relay the story....

We all got to Warhammer World at around eleven today. Abes car died..... of course it did, it’s Abe. Needless to say we carried on, we had gotten there and we had a game to play, Abe decided to test his car afterwards.

We went back in time. Playing Istvaan III, with World Eaters vs Loaylist Death Guard And Sons of Horus (SoH commanded b6 our friend JP, who was with us for the Weekender). The fighting was bloody and I got to try out my Mastodon and new chain axes for my world eaters (anvil industries- highly recommended as they don’t snap!).

We suffered some early losses when an assault squad and legion champion perished to a deep strike mishap, but my caestus assault rams and mastodon really helped get our ravening hordes in close. Kharn also got chopped up by a leviathan dreadnought!

The mastodon is so tough! It really helped to keep my squishy infantry locked up tight until the right moment, it also killed a few things too!

Chicken?

The world eaters won the day, holding a few extra objectives and just genrally killing more stuff! Thanks to the Warhammer World staff for getting us tables at short notice! We will have to plan ahead next time.

So, we check on Abes car, no dice... we jump start the car, no luck. Abe calls the RAC and we are trapped at Warhammer World for a bit. A burger or so later- it was a simple blown fuse and Abe Is back on the road, our fleet of three is ready to go...

My car battery is dead...many thanks to Dave, another gamer at Warhammer World from Cardiff, who tried to give me a jump start....this failed so I called the breakdown, they fixed the battery and advised me to drive ten miles, hence the “unexpected journey”.

We’re all in our respective hotels now, everything is ok. It’s been bit stressful and somewhere i appears to have lost a mastodon lascannon sponson so if anyone sees it at Warhammer World or can help, please let us know!

My first Predator

Okay so first thing is, this was my first predator...ever. Like ever. I had an old old plastic one that my dad got me when I was little, but it was unpainted, had no sponsons on account of them being snapped off, and no turret, that went walkies long before it came to me. So this gunmetal bad lad was to be the first of many.

Currently I have 2 preds in my Iron Warriors now, with plasma and conversion beaters. I've used both but I personally much prefer the Beamer. It feels very IV legion to just sit back and melt people from 48-72 inches away! Both weapons were magnetised so I could chose my fancy on the day ?
Love the tank and it's joined the already full ranks of my IW, it's got a lot of tanks, but after doing two of these I want more! I have a lot of tanks for the IV but I think the next thing would be some more land raiders. I have 2 now, one Achilles alpha and one old old plastic block (you know the one, looks like the old remote control car that one friend of yours had). So I'd say 2-3 Mkii b's...we'll see. But hey there are always more World Eaters to be done, bad JB! Focus on one legion at a time...oh and maybe I should finish those Skitarii...

World Eater Terminators

Hello again folks, the newest edition to my collection are these fine chaps.

So my army is going to be full drop assault, so the terminators are going to drop down in a nice blob curtesy of the teleportarium. First issue, they'll be in aforementioned blob, prime for ap2 blast, yes I'm looking at you plasma destructors. Second, I'm not using nuncio vox's, I really can't see the bloody 12th being sane enough to bother. That all said, still excited to use them.

Model wise, a joy to paint. Was really nice painting something other than a regular marine and following on from the dreadnought I was inspired to try some larger models. I'd say the main thing with these was that they began life as Iron Warriors, I just repainted them. I had 30+ Cataphractii for my IW and when the Tyrant Siege Terminators (FINALLY) came out I thought I really didn't need that many. To be honest if I ever change my mind, I'll just have to get some more.

My long suffering Blood Angels

Thought it was about time to put up some of my Blood Angels.

These guys were started about two years ago after I hit a wall with my IW, painters block or something, but I remember when I decided to start Heresy in the first place I was torn between both IW and BA. I chose IW in the end cos they are my favourite, and at the end of the day Heresy isn't cheap so you should do what you want and what you love.

But anyway, these guys turned out to be the most important figures I had ever painted. At the time everything I did was drybrushed gun metal, effective yes but simple and uninspiring. So out came the layer paints and I did a test model.
He was done neatly and at the time he was the best figure I'd ever painted, but still he didn't look like Daveco or Stonedrose's stuff. So i went and got advice. That basically involved Stonedrose showing me step by step how you paint a FW/GW model. But it was totally worth it, and he give me some great advice which was "if you want to get better at painting, buy models you like and paint them. The stuff you like the look of not just what you need to play."
So a Wright King, metal Saint celestine, and a load of old reaper miniatures later, I was happy with how I painted.
Still learning of course but the WE and BA have really helped me!

I say thank you to my long suffering toy soldiers, the Blood Angels have finally delivered you!

Note that I'm now very excited for the Heresy weekender, it'll be great so see some more stuff for the BA, hopefully I'll get round to finishing the two Landspeeders, the dreadnoughts and the 20 assault marines I have...sigh
And on another note it'll be good if they actually make a distinction there between Lutharian and the Lion's Dark Angels...me and Abe will let you know about that very soon ;)
